MARION, Ala. —
Vannity Robles
scored the winning run in the seventh inning, and her twin
Vivionna Robles
pitched three shutout innings of relief to help Xavier University of Louisiana
rally for a 4-3 victory against Judson (Ala.) and gain a split of a softball doubleheader Saturday.
Judson won the first game 4-1.
Vannity Robles scored from third base
on a one-out passed ball in the final inning to cap a XULA comeback from three runs down.
Vivionna Robles entered the game
with an 0-3 record and an ERA of 9.45 but produced her best outing of the season.
Judson scored twice in the first inning
of the second game, then increased its lead to 3-0 in the fourth. But XULA
rallied with back-to-back RBI singles from
Mecolett Bradley and
Destyn Jones in the fifth,
then
Endya Gillard scored the tying run in the sixth.
"We should have won both games,"
XULA head coach
Leslie Ballard said. "We struggled offensively in the first game
and left the bases loaded twice."
XULA's only extra-base hit of the doubleheader
was a
Tamia Washington double.
XULA snapped a nine-game losing streak and
won for the first time since opening weekend Feb. 6. This is XULA's first season
in this sport.
Next for XULA will be a 2 p.m. Saturday doubleheader
at Alexandria, La., against future Red River Athletic Conference opponent LSU-Alexandria.
XULA will join the RRAC July 1.
