NEW ORLEANS — For the second consecutive
week, Xavier University of Louisiana baseball has the Association of Independent Institutions
Pitcher of the Week.
This time it's
Trey Clark, the winner for April 26-May 2
after going 2-0 during the Black College World Series at Montgomery, Ala.
Clark, a senior from Moultrie, Ga., and a graduate of
Colquitt County High School, earned his victories within 18 hours.
Late Friday evening he pitched the final two innings — both scoreless — as XULA
rallied for a 7-5 victory against Florida Memorial. Then on Saturday afternoon, Clark went the distance in a
seven-inning run-rule game, a 16-2 victory against Bluefield State.
Clark's stats included a 1.00 ERA, nine innings, four hits, two
runs, one earned run, three walks and three strikeouts. Opponents hit .138 against the right-hander.
Clark helped XULA finish second in the six-team, double-elimination event that included NAIA and NCAA Division II teams.
Teammate
Blair Frederick won the A.I.I. pitching award the
previous week.
Next for XULA (26-9) will be the
A.I.I. Championship tournament at
Lawrenceville, Ga. XULA is seeded third out of five teams and will play second-seeded
Fisher at 3 p.m. EDT Saturday. The A.I.I. champion will earn an automatic
bid to the NAIA nationals opening round May 17-20.
