NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
produced its best-ever performance — 19th place and 503.5 points — in
the NAIA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings of 2020-21.
The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced the results Friday.
XULA was No. 1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and No. 1 among
the NAIA's historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). This was XULA's final GCAC season;
it joined the
Red River Athletic
Conference Thursday.
XULA's previous highs were 341.5 points in 2018-19 and 42nd place in 2013-14.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed by NACDA and USA Today newspaper. Points are awarded
based on each institution's finish in up to 13 sports.
This is the 26th year of the NAIA all-sports standings. No final standings were compiled in 2019-20 because
of the COVID-19 pandemic.
XULA reached record levels as the result of 10-of-13 teams scoring nationally:

• Fifth place in competitive cheer
• A tie for ninth place in men's tennis
