XULA is only HBCU women's volleyball team receiving votes in NAIA or NCAA coaches polls

Coaches poll of Oct. 12, 2022

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana is the only HBCU women's volleyball team mentioned in the most recent NAIA or NCAA coaches polls.
The Gold Nuggets are among "others receiving votes" in the NAIA with 11 points and is 34th. That's an increase of five points and six positions from the previous poll Sept. 28.
The NAIA announced the rankings Wednesday. Eastern Oregon is No. 1 for the second consecutive poll.
XULA — 15-2 overall and 10-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference after a two-match RRAC home sweep of Texas A&M-Texarkana — will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for three matches in the Grand View Tournament. The Gold Nuggets will play Friday at noon against Ottawa (Kan.) and Saturday at noon against William Penn and 3 p.m. against William Woods.
Ottawa was 25th in the preseason poll and is tied for 26th this week. The Braves are 14-9 overall and 3-6 against teams receiving votes in this week's NAIA poll, including a five-set neutral-site victory against Taylor, which is No. 12.
William Penn is 12-12 and has a five-set home victory against No. 15 Central Methodist. William Woods is 7-12.
XULA has a 14-match winning streak, tied for the second longest in program history. The school record is 20 in 2013.
The Gold Nuggets' next home match will start at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 — one week from Saturday — against Our Lady of the Lake, the other team that's unbeaten in RRAC matches. Venue will be the University of New Orleans Human Performance Center. XULA and OLLU shared the RRAC regular-season championship a year ago, then XULA won 15-4 in the fifth set against the Saints to win the RRAC Tournament at OLLU.
