Rush, Nuggets combine for 13-3 record at Dillard Invitational

        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana won 13-of-16 matches Friday on the opening day of the Dillard Invitational tennis tournament.
        Going 2-0 were Jacobi Bain, Mathieu Strauss amd Jered Wilson of the Gold Rush and Mbali Langa of the Gold Nuggets. Bain reached the men's singles A-bracket final after defeating Hippolyte Barbier de Preville of city rival Loyola 6-4, 6-4 and Jesus Rodriguez of Dillard 6-2, 6-2.
        Langa, in her XULA debut, defeated Loyola's Micaela Ponce 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) in the women's A-singles, and she teamed with McKenna Wheatley to defeat Dillard's Valentina Gomez and Itzel Lara 6-1 to reach the doubles semifinals.
        The four-school tournament — the women of NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana also are competing — will conclude Saturday at Dillard's facility at the back of the campus.
