        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana freshman VanDer Woody won 6-2, 7-5 Saturday against Aubin Duchier of city rival Loyola in the men's singles B-bracket main-draw final of the Dillard Invitational tennis tournament.
        XULA had three runner-up finishes: Nereo Suarez and Jered Wilson in the men's doubles main draw, Valentina Largacha in the women's singles B-bracket main draw and McKenna Wheatley in the women's singles A-bracket consolation.
        Also reaching the men's singles A-bracket main-draw final were XULA's Jacobi Bain and Mathieu Strauss, but their match was not played.
        This was the final fall tournament for the Gold Rush; the Gold Nuggets will play in the LSU-Shreveport Invitational Nov. 4-5.
