CLINTON, Miss. — For the fourth time in as many
cross country meets this season,
Lejaune George and
India Mastin were the fastest finishers
for Xavier University of Louisiana, this time at the Mississippi College Fall Festival.
George ran 8,000 meters in 28 minutes, 26.43 seconds to finish 18th out of
36 men. Mastin ran 5,000 meters in 20:38.34 to place 14th out of 42 women.
George produced the fastest Gold Rush 8K time
since four runners —
Kwame Jackson (27:15.84), David Holobowicz (27:35.28),
Brent Kitto (27:52.46) and Christopher August (28:08.15) — did it in a 1-2-3-4 finish at the 2013
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships and at the same venue (Choctaw Trails)
that George ran on Saturday.
Mastin's 5K time was the Gold Nuggets'
best since Taylor Price (19:44.5) won the 2019 GCAC individual title in New Orleans.
The other XULA men's finishers were
Dominick Baptiste (26th in 29:44.41),
Skyler Madison (29th in 30:22.26),
Damoy Boyd (32nd in 31:36.32) and
Ahmad Wilson (36th in 37:41.87).
The other XULA women's finishers were
Amber Parks (30th in 23:00.30),
Reagan Collins (31st in 23:00.87),
Jalyn Jenkins (39th in 24:17.24) and
Janell Nixon (41st in 26:39.20).
In team scoring, the Gold Rush placed third out of three teams,
and the Gold Nuggets finished fourth out of five. The XULA women finished ahead of NCAA Division I Jackson State.
Next for XULA will be the Red River Athletic Conference Championships Nov. 4 at
San Antonio, Texas.
