JACKSON, Miss. — Three from Xavier University of Louisiana tennis — Jered Wilson of the Gold Rush, Tianna Dixon and McKenna Wheatley of the Gold Nuggets — were finalists Saturday at the Jackson State Invitational.
Wilson reached the men's B-singles final and lost 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 there to Mississippi College's Antoine Nivault. Dixon and Wheatley defeated Jackson State's Dealva Alston and Robin Alston 6-3 in the women's doubles consolation final.
It was the second time this season that Dixon and Wheatley won a doubles bracket — they were the B-bracket champion at HBCU nationals in September.
Next for XULA will be the ITA Cup, a four-day event which will start Thursday in Rome, Ga. Two men's singles players — Mathieu Strauss (automatic bid) and Jacobi Bain (at-large) — qualified. Strauss won in a walkover against Bain in the title match of the NAIA Gulf ITA Regional Championships at XULA.
