NEW ORLEANS — NAIA No. 14 Texas A&M-Texarkana walloped four extra-base hits during a seven-run sixth inning that rallied the Eagles in a 9-2 Red River Athletic Conference softball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
It was a sweep for TAMUT, which used another big inning — a five-run first — as the catalyst for a 9-1, six-inning victory in the opener.
Sunday will be the Gold Nuggets' third RRAC home doubleheader in three days. They'll play Jarvis Christian at 11 a.m. at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
XULA led 2-1 in the second game after
Madison Winston's RBI single and
Alexis Richardson's RBI triple in the third inning, but the Eagles — after going scoreless for four consecutive innings — opened the sixth with a single, double, triple (by Macie Reeves to put the Eagles ahead to stay), triple and single. Three batters later, Katelyn Stamer hit a three-run homer.
Stamer's RBI triple and Reeves' two-run double highlighted the Eagles' five-run first in the opener. Sierra Mihailov hit a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 9-0.
XULA is 9-20 overall and 5-7 in the RRAC. TAMUT — which outhit the Gold Nuggets 26-10 over two games — is 21-5 and 5-1.
