BROOKINGS, S.D. — Xavier University
of Louisiana's Emerald Carter and Santerrius Barlow advanced Friday to the finals
of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Carter, an NAIA All-American a year ago, produced her best collegiate
time in the 60-meter hurdles: 8.65 seconds. Barlow
qualified in the men's 200-meter dash by winning the fourth of five heats in 21.24.
Barlow's time is the fifth fastest among the finalists.
Carter's previous XULA best in the hurdles
was 8.74 in a fifth-place finish at the 2021 NAIA final.
The third and final day of the meet will
start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex
with the women's triple jump. The first men's event will be the
mile run at 12:35 p.m. Competing in the men's triple jump for XULA at 1:30 p.m.
will be Seth Alexander and Blake Harris.
Eliminated in Friday preliminary heats
were XULA's Jada McBean (16th place, season-best 7.69) and Kynnedy Turner (29th, 7.81)
in the women's 60-meter dash and Barlow in the men's 60 (12th place, 6.86).
Both events had 36 entries. McBean was All-America in the 60 a year ago.
