Unbeaten LSUA defeats Gold Nuggets 5-2

Results

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Juliette Finch and Valentina Largacha won in singles Sunday, but unbeaten LSU-Alexandria rolled to a 5-2 victory in the completion of a women's tennis match suspended Feb. 26 because of rain.
Finch defeated Candela Bonivardi 6-1, 6-4 on court one, and Largacha beat Annemart Kleijn 6-3, 6-3 on court four. All the matches were completed; LSUA, 13-0 and ranked fourth in the NAIA, won the first three points and clinched at No. 3 singles when Maria Alvarez defeated Valaine Clarke 6-4, 6-2.
Finch won her seventh straight in singles against an NAIA opponent and has won nine of her last 11 overall. Largacha won after dropping five of her previous six singles decisions.
The match was halted six weeks ago in Alexandria, La., after LSUA clinched the doubles point.
The Gold Nuggets, 11-12 and ranked 15th in the NAIA, played for the fourth consecutive day and lost their third in row. They're below .500 for the first time since March 10.
XULA's women and men will play host to William Carey at noon Thursday. LSUA will return to XULA for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament — women's teams only — April 28-30.
