NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana's
Juliette Finch and
Valentina Largacha won in singles Sunday,
but unbeaten LSU-Alexandria rolled to a 5-2 victory in the completion
of a women's tennis match suspended Feb. 26 because of rain.
Finch defeated
Candela Bonivardi 6-1, 6-4 on court one, and Largacha beat
Annemart Kleijn 6-3, 6-3 on court four.
All the matches were completed; LSUA, 13-0 and ranked fourth in the NAIA, won the first three
points and clinched at No. 3 singles when Maria Alvarez defeated
Valaine Clarke 6-4, 6-2.
Finch won her seventh straight in singles
against an NAIA opponent and has won nine of her last 11 overall. Largacha
won after dropping five of her previous six singles decisions.
The match was halted six weeks ago in Alexandria, La.,
after LSUA clinched the doubles point.
The Gold Nuggets, 11-12 and ranked 15th in the NAIA,
played for the fourth consecutive day and lost their third in row. They're below .500 for the first time since March 10.
XULA's women and men will
play host to William Carey at noon Thursday. LSUA will return to XULA for
the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament — women's teams only — April 28-30.
