NEW ORLEANS —
Five consecutive starts. Five consecutive complete games. No earned runs allowed.
That is the stellar resume
of Xavier University of Louisiana freshman pitcher
Carina Chargois
during the past two weeks. The right-hander added to those credentials Tuesday
with a 2-0 victory against NCAA Division I Southern in the first
game of a doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Southern gained a split with a
6-0 victory in the second game.
It was the regular-season finale
for the Gold Nuggets (21-28), who will compete in the Red River Athletic
Conference Tournament May 5-7 at San Antonio.
Chargois allowed five hits,
all singles, walked one and struck out seven. Her strikeout total was
her best since her school-record 15 against Lane March 2.
Chargois said she was prepared
and focused.
"I did a good job moving
the ball around," Chargois said. "I did it a lot more than I do
against other teams. Southern is NCAA Division I, so I knew
I had to lock in and have no missed pitches."
