HAWKINS, Texas —
Jarvis Christian ended Xavier University of Louisiana's school-record six-game softball
winning streak with 3-0 and 4-1 Red River Athletic Conference victories Saturday.
Monique Montes pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 for the
Lady Bulldogs (18-19 overall, 6-12 RRAC) in the first game. Yasmine Rivera followed with a four-hitter.
Also pitching complete games
were XULA's
Brittany Ensley (first game) and
Vannity Robles.
Both allowed five hits, and only one of the runs Robles allowed was earned.
Ensley had XULA's only hit, a single,
in the first game. The Gold Nuggets scored their second-game run when
Shay Angelle and
McKenzie Guillory hit consecutive doubles in the fifth inning
to cut Jarvis Christian's lead to 2-1.
XULA and Jarvis Christian split
their four-game regular-season series. The Gold Nuggets' record win streak started
with 5-0 and 9-1 home victories March 27 against the Lady Bulldogs.
XULA (15-22, 11-9) will stay on the road and visit
NAIA No. 13 Texas A&M-Texarkana (28-8, 12-4) at
1 p.m. Sunday. It will be XULA's third RRAC doubleheader in as many days.
