JACKSON, Miss. —
Xavier University of Louisiana won the doubles point Saturday in
a 4-1 women's tennis loss at Jackson State.
The Gold Nuggets (11-11) lost
for the second consecutive day on the road against an NCAA Division I opponent.
The XULA women will play host to LSU-Alexandria — 12-0 and ranked fourth
in the NAIA — at 1 p.m. Sunday at XULA Tennis Center. The Gold Nuggets are ranked 15th.
Kareemah Muhammad and
Valaine Clarke clinched the doubles point for
XULA with a 7-6 (7-5) victory on court one against Sherine Salem and Paula Arcarons.
Tianna Dixon and
Valentina Largacha defeated JSU's Zeina Shabaan and Natalya Ogunwale 6-2 on court three.
In singles Clarke was the only XULA player to win a
set. Tyra-Nicole Whyte led Clarke 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 when JSU clinched.
Zeina Shabaan clinched on court six
with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against
Lindsey Dixon.
Jackson State, the first-place team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, is 15-5.
XULA and LSUA will resume Sunday
a Feb. 26 match that was halted during doubles because of rain.
