BATON ROUGE, La. —
For Xavier University of Louisiana men's cross country, it was a major makeover Friday morning.
Four from the Gold Rush —
Lejaune George,
Dominick Baptiste,
Steven Wilson and
Damoy Boyd — moved into
the program's all-time top 10 at 6,000 meters as a result of their performances
in the LSU Invitational at University Club.
George, a Zachary, La., freshman competing
28 miles from his home, produced the program's No. 2 time, 20 minutes, 19.4 seconds.
George placed 18th out of 53 runners and was the fastest Gold Rush finisher for the
third time in as many meets.
The times of Baptiste (21:28.9),
Wilson (22:15.3) and Boyd (22:18.7) rank 5-7-9 in XULA history.
In the race they finished 27th, 34th and 36th.
XULA's other runner was
Ahmad Wilson,
44th in 23:30.5.
Freshman Camren Sewell set the XULA 6K
mark of 20:08.1 at the 2017 LSU Invitational on a hillier course at Highland Road Park.
XULA was fifth out of six
in team scoring, and for the second straight meet the Gold Rush — a longtime NAIA member — placed
ahead of NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana. XULA scored 122 points.
LSU junior Jackson Martingayle
was first in 18:09, nearly 23 seconds faster than runner-up and teammate Will Dart.
LSU won with 17 points, and Nicholls was second with 47.
Next for XULA's men and women will be
the Mississippi College Fall Festival Oct. 22 at Clinton, Miss.
