Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis, ranked fifth in the NAIA, stretched
its winning streak to eight Saturday with a 4-2 victory against No. 15 Ave Maria.
Tianna Dixon — playing in her hometown and winner of the last three Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week
awards — clinched on the second singles court with her 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory against Valentine Colin. Dixon and
McKenna Wheatley won their doubles match,
and teammates
Mbali Langa and
Valentina Largacha clinched the doubles point on the first court with a 6-3 decision against Lara Teodoro and Vitoria Barandas.
The Gyrenes are 1-4.
XULA (13-3) will stay in Mobile and play
NAIA No. 6 Southeastern (Fla.) at 10 a.m. CDT Sunday, then play host to city rival Dillard at 3 p.m. Thursday.
