NEW ORLEANS —
Tianna Dixon tied a Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis record Tuesday when she was named Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Feb. 27-March 5.
Dixon joined Sha'Nel Bruins as the only Gold Nuggets to win conference honors three consecutive weeks. Bruins did it in 2016 in XULA's previous league, the Gulf Coast Athletic.
Dixon — a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., and a graduate of UMS-Wright Preparatory School — was 2-0 in doubles with
McKenna Wheatley and 2-0 in singles to help the Gold Nuggets defeat ranked NAIA opponents Middle Georgia and Campbellsville on the road. Dixon's 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory against Marina Prieto tied the Middle Georgia match at 3, then
Valentina Largacha clinched.
It's the fifth straight week that the Gold Nuggets won the RRAC award. Largacha was honored for Jan. 30-Feb. 5, and Wheatley won for Feb. 6-12.
The RRAC weekly award is the fourth of Dixon's career.
Next for XULA, 12-3 and ranked fifth in the NAIA, will be matches in Mobile: noon Saturday against NAIA No. 15 Ave Maria at Cottage Hill Tennis Center and 10 a.m. Sunday against NAIA No. 6 Southeastern (Fla.) at Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center. Times are Central.
