NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana received five individual awards and one team award Thursday when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2022-23 academic honors.
        Named as ITA Scholar Athletes were Kareemah Muhammad, Yi Chen Pao, Ariana Stephens and McKenna Wheatley from the women's team and Jered Wilson from the men's team. The XULA women earned an ITA All-Academic team award.
        The Gold Nuggets qualified for ITA All-Academic by reaching the minimum 3.20 team GPA for the 2022-23 year. Criteria for ITA Scholar Athlete includes being a varsity letterwinner and compiling a 3.50 GPA during the recently completed academic year.
        Pao is the first Gold Nugget to earn ITA Scholar Athlete four times. Stephens did it for the third time, and Muhammad and Wilson did it for the second time apiece.
        The XULA women received the ITA team award for the fourth time in five years.
        This is the third honor in six weeks for Wilson, the men's recipient of the national and South region ITA NAIA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.
