EUNICE, La. —
William Saar scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half Wednesday
to lead LSU-Eunice to a 2-0 men's soccer exhibition victory against
Xavier University of Louisiana.
This was the second exhibition in four days for XULA, a first-year varsity program.
The Gold Rush will begin the regular season at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at
NAIA No. 9 William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Saar scored on a volley in the 37th minute
— Santi Waites assisted — then made it 2-0 five minutes later
when he rebounded a loose ball and kicked it in the goal.
"This was
another really good test for our team, just like Jones was Sunday,"
XULA head coach
Gonzalo Carranza said. "This time we weren't clinical
in front of the net, and LSUE was.
"LSUE is a very good program
and has been a long time. We're a brand-new program trying to get better and
move up."
LSUE, 11-4 last year, hasn't lost
at home since the two-semester pandemic season of 2020-21.
