ROME, Ga. —
Xavier University of Louisiana's
Mbali Langa and
McKenna Wheatley,
the No. 2 NAIA women's doubles seed, won 5-7, 6-4, [10-6] Saturday
against Keiser's third-seeded Vanja Vidanovic and Eloise de Mooij
in the semifinals of the ITA Cup Championships.
Langa and Wheatley will
play for the championship at noon EDT Sunday against SCAD Atlanta's
fourth-seeded Shalimar Talbi and Adrianna Kluska.
"It's the same formula
that we used to win at regionals," Wheatley said. "Mbali and I have a lot of confidence
in each other, whether we're leading or whether we're down.
We trust each other."
Langa and Wheatley never trailed
in the second set and won the super-tiebreaker after grabbing a 7-2 lead.
XULA won three times in as many attempts Saturday.
In women's singles, XULA's
Amira Bergaoui
won 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6) in her final consolation match against Lindsey Wilson's
Anastasiia Vorobiova. Bergaoui was 2-1 at the ITA Cup, winning twice after losing in the main draw Thursday.
In the men's doubles consolation bracket, XULA's
Manuel Arias
and
Nereo Suarez won 6-3, 6-1 against Noah Burton and Zinovii Nahirniak of
William Woods. Arias and Suarez finished 1-2 in the tournament.
