NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's soccer will play Lindsey Wilson at 1 p.m. CST Saturday (Nov. 23) in Columbia, Ky., in the second round of NAIA nationals.
The NAIA announced Saturday the 40-team field and pairings. XULA and Lindsey Wilson received at-large bids and first-round byes.
The XULA-Lindsey Wilson winner will advance to the NAIA's final site Dec. 2-9 at Wichita, Kan.
This is the first NAIA nationals appearance for the XULA men (14-4-1), who launched their program in 2023. The Gold Rush were the runner-up this year in the Red River Athletic Conference regular season and tournament. XULA's 2-0 loss Thursday to Louisiana Christian in the RRAC Tournament final snapped a school-record 11-game winning streak.
Lindsey Wilson (9-5-3) will play at nationals for the 31st time. The Blue Raiders are a nine-time NAIA champion in this sport, most recently in 2011. This season Lindsey Wilson won the Mid-South Conference regular-season championship and lost on penalty kicks to Cumberlands in the MSC Tournament final.
The NAIA seeded 16 teams. Lindsey Wilson is seeded 12th.
XULA is the first HBCU to qualify for NAIA men's nationals since Wiley in 2015. Howard (1961) is the lone HBCU to win an NAIA national title in this sport.
