OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Fifth-ranked Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis defeated eighth-ranked St. Thomas (Fla.) 4-0 Friday evening in the opening round of the ITA NAIA National Indoor Championships.
It was the first dual match of the season for both.
The Gold Nuggets will play another top-10 Florida team, No. 3 Southeastern, in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley won in doubles and singles for XULA. Valentina Largacha clinched with her 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory against Lauren Fullerton on the fifth singles court. Sydney Green and Kyra Akinnibi clinched the doubles point in a 6-4 decision against Sofia Nardone and Lauren Seemann.         It was the first time since 2021 that the Gold Nuggets shut out a top-10 opponent.
