Gold Nuggets place 2nd at ITA NAIA indoor nationals

        OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Fifth-ranked Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis lost 4-1 Sunday evening to top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett in the title match of the ITA NAIA National Indoor Championships.
        Kyra Akinnibi scored the Gold Nuggets' point when she defeated Teodora Jovic, No. 4 in the ITA NAIA singles rankings, 6-4, 6-1 on court three. Akinnibi trailed 4-1 in the first set, then won 11 of the final 12 games. On the second court XULA freshman Amira Bergaoui split sets with ninth-ranked Iryna Lysykh in an unfinished match; Bergaoui won the second set 6-1.
        The Grizzlies (4-0) clinched when top-ranked Justine Lespes defeated 29th-ranked Mbali Langa 6-4, 6-2.
        The Gold Nuggets (2-1) will play LSU-Shreveport at 3 p.m. Thursday at XULA Tennis Center.
