2024 Red River Athletic Conference standings
ALEXANDRIA, La. — Haley Fontenot
went 7-for-7 Tuesday, including two home runs in the third inning of the opener,
to lead LSU-Alexandria to 9-4 and 9-1 Red River Athletic Conference softball victories
against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Gold Nuggets will return to the road
for RRAC doubleheaders at 3 p.m. Thursday at Texas College and 1 p.m. Saturday at Jarvis Christian.
This is the final week of the regular season, and eighth-place XULA (11-22 overall,
8-16 RRAC) leads ninth-place Jarvis Christian (10-22, 5-19) by three games.
The top eight RRAC teams will qualify for the conference tournament May 2-5 at Louisiana
Christian in Pineville, La.
Fontenot hit bases-empty home runs
to start and conclude the Generals' eight-run third. The sophomore shortstop
raised her season batting average to .564, which leads the conference and ranks second in the NAIA.
XULA's
Caitlin Buford had three hits, including a triple,
and stole two bases in the two games.
Jada Hughes,
Madison Winston,
Rayne Althaus and
Amaya Williams
had an RBI apiece; Hughes' seventh-inning double in the opener scored
Kiera Evans.
Winston had a single in each game and has hit safely in 20
of the last 23 games.
The Generals (30-12, 18-6) extended their win streak to six
and moved into a second-place tie in the conference with Houston-Victoria, which lost 2-1 and 5-0
at home to RRAC leader and NAIA No. 1 Our Lady of the Lake.
