SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Valaine Clarke won 6-3, 7-5 against Alexandra Mille
on the fourth singles court Friday to
clinch Xavier University of Louisiana's 4-2 women's tennis victory against
Our Lady of the Lake in the semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Gold Nuggets (20-5), seeded first in this
event and ranked third in the NAIA, will play second-seeded and 13th-ranked LSU-Alexandria
(14-4) for the championship at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday at Blossom Tennis Center.
That winner will receive an automatic bid to NAIA nationals, which will
begin May 14 in Mobile, Ala.
XULA and LSUA will meet in the
Red River final for third consecutive year. The Generals won 4-3 in 2022,
and the Gold Nuggets won 4-2 in 2023 — XULA was the site of those matches.
XULA's tournament finals streak includes
a 4-0 victory in 2021 against William Carey in the Southern States.
LSUA
defeated third-seeded LSU-Shreveport 4-0 in the first semifinal Friday.
It will be the second XULA-LSUA meeting this season.
The Gold Nuggets defeated the Generals 5-2 at home in XULA's regular-season finale April 18.
Amira Bergaoui and
Valentina Largacha clinched the doubles point for XULA
when they defeated Lucia Popluharova and Saskia Vogelzang 6-2.
Kareemah Muhammad and
McKenna Wheatley
earned XULA's other doubles victory, 6-0 against Ana Ossio and Sofia Gonzalez.
Kyra Akinnibi defeated Ossio 6-1, 6-0 on court three
— it was Akinnibi's 12th consecutive singles victory — and
Largacha beat Gonzalez 6-1, 6-2 on court six.
In the first semifinal, LSUA's Olivia Scattini and Lucie Ivanova won in doubles and
singles against LSUS, and Scattini clinched
with her 7-5, 6-2 victory against Pierina Lescher on court one.
