XULA's Ma'at to play in Flight B final at HBCU National Championships

ATLANTA - Xavier Junior Asadah Ma'at will play for a tournament championship Sunday, following a Saturday win in the HBCU National Championships Tournament at the South Fulton Tennis Center.

Ma'at, a junior from Teaneck, New Jersey, earned a spot in the Flight B Singles final with a straight-sets win, 6-1, 6-1, over Polina Georgieva of Jackson State.

She will face 7-seeded Chloe Goins of Howard at 8 a.m. CST Sunday for the title.

The Flight B bracket features athletes, almost all of whom are from NCAA Division I schools, who typically compete on the 2nd or 3rd courts in spring tennis play.

In Flight A play, Xavier All-American Maja Brnic fell to top-seeded Regina Urbiola Armenta of Norfolk State in a match that went to a tie-breaking third set.

Brnic lost the first set 6-0, but rallied to claim a 6-3 win in the second set before falling 10-5 in the final set.
