NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's longtime tennis coach, Alan Green, will participate Wednesday evening in the coin toss for a featured match at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in New York.
Green accepted the USTA's invitation to appear as part of HBCU Live, a day-long celebration highlighting HBCU culture and the contributions of tennis graduates from those universities.
Venue is the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, a neighborhood in the north-central portion of the New York City borough of Queens.
Green is one of the most successful college tennis coaches in the United States. Green led XULA's men's teams to three NAIA national runner-up finishes and the women to the NAIA national semifinals six times. Green — in his 22nd season as XULA's coach — is a five-time ITA NAIA National Coach of the Year.
This past season Green was chosen Louisiana Coach of the Year for men and women by a Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel. Green's teams will begin the 2024-25 season Sept. 19-21 in the HBCU National Championships at South Fulton Tennis Center in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Ga.
