        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Amira Bergaoui, McKenna Wheatley and Asadah Ma'at reached the women's singles round of 16 Friday at the NAIA Gulf Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at City Park.
        Bergaoui, seeded third, defeated Our Lady of the Lake's Alexandra Mille 6-1, 6-0. Wheatley, seeded fourth, beat Texas A&M-Texarkana's Jaelee Young 6-0, 6-2. Ma'at, an unseeded freshman in her second college tournament, won 6-2, 6-1 against LSU-Shreveport's Nicoleta Anestiadi and 6-3, 6-2 against William Carey's Bayley Askin.
        Wheatley and Mbali Langa defeated TAMUT's Young and Andrea Castillo 8-0 to reach the doubles quarterfinals.
        The three-day event will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday with main-draw singles matches. Consolation singles will start at 10:15 a.m. Main-draw semifinals and finals will be played Sunday at XULA.
