2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings
METAIRIE, La. —
Gustavo Oliveira's 63rd-minute header
after a corner kick lifted Xavier University of Louisiana to a 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference
soccer victory Saturday against North American University.
The XULA men (3-2-1 overall, 2-1 RRAC) won their second in
a row and climbed above .500 for the first time this season.
"We practice the corner kick a lot," said forward
Leo Dutra,
who was credited with the assist. "We worked on it Friday. Our coaches worked with us. I'm glad it happened."
Oliveira, No. 2 in the Red River in goals in 2023 and tied for fifth this season, scored his
fifth goal of 2024 and his 18th in 19 career XULA games. Oliveira scored for the third consecutive game and
the fifth time last six games.
Breno Zanolla in goal earned the shutout, XULA's second this season.
XULA will visit Red Rver-leading LSU-Shreveport Thursday and Texas-A&M-Texarkana Saturday.
Kickoff will be 3:30 p.m. for both. LSUS is receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll and was 25th in the Sept. 11 rankings.
In other RRAC games Saturday:
• Louisiana Christian won 5-1 at home against Paul Quinn.
• LSUS, the only team with a perfect Red River record (4-0), won 5-0 at Huston-Tillotson.
• Houston-Victoria won 6-0 at home against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
• Texas A&M-San Antonio won 4-2 at home against Texas College.
• LSU-Alexandria, trailing 2-0 at home to Southwest (N.M.) through 23
minutes, rallied for a 3-2 victory.
• Jarvis Christian won 2-0 at Our Lady of the Lake.
