Lejaune George
ran four miles in 22 minutes, 49.44 seconds Saturday morning
to lead Xavier University of Louisiana men's cross country in the Nicholls Invitational.
George placed 45th out of 106 runners.
George has been the fastest finisher for the Gold Rush 13 times in 14 career meets, including
the last eight.
Also competing for the Gold Rush
were
Landan Gillespie, 65th in 24:09.95;
Jayden Bratton, 74th in 24:47.46;
Skyler Madison, 75th in 24:49.37;
Collin Wright, 81st in 25:30.92;
Ovane Williams, 95th in 28:12.15;
Caydon Carpenter, 103rd in 34:06.40; and
David Morris, 106th in 34:41.43.
XULA scored 307 points to place 13th out of 15 teams.
NCAA Division I Alabama won with 17 points, and the University of New Orleans
was second with 64. XULA is a longtime NAIA member.
Alabama's Joel Gardner won in 19:14.49. The Crimson Tide
had eight of the first 10 finishers.
Next for XULA will be the Loyola Invitational Friday in suburban Marrero, La.
The men will race 8,000 meters.
