Regional semifinal berths for Bergaoui, Langa, Wheatley

        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Amira Bergaoui in singles and Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley in doubles reached Sunday's women's semifinals of the NAIA Gulf Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships.
        Bergaoui, seeded third, beat LSU-Alexandria's Kamapriya Rajawat 6-2, 4-6, [10-8] in the round of 16 and LSUA's Nahia Echaide 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals at City Park. Bergaoui will play Dillard's seventh-seeded Hang Nguyen in the semifinals at 9 a.m. Sunday at XULA Tennis Center, the venue for all final-day matches.
        Langa and Wheatley won 8-6 against second-seeded Lucy Carpenter and Micaela Ponce of city rival Loyola to earn an 11 a.m. semifinal pairing with William Carey's third-seeded Victoria Vieten and Isabella Lechuga.
        In the singles round of 16, top-seeded Carpenter defeated XULA freshman Asadah Ma'at 6-2, 6-2, and Ponce beat Wheatley, who was seeded fourth, 6-2, 6-3.
