Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. — NAIA No. 11 LSU-Shreveport scored twice in the final 24 minutes Monday to earn a 2-0 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer victory against No. 21 Xavier University of Louisiana.
Jack Thomas, the reigning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week, gave the Pilots a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 67th minute. Joel Trueb scored in the 85th minute.
LSUS (12-0-5 overall, 10-0 Red River) extended its winning streak to 12 and clinched the RRAC regular-season championship.
XULA (9-3-2, 6-2-1 Red River) is tied for third with Texas A&M-San Antonio with 19 points. The RRAC awards three points for each league victory, one point for each tie and none for a loss.
The Gold Rush will play host to second-place LSU-Alexandria at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La. Still to be decided is a suspended Sept. 27 home game between Southwest (N.M.) and XULA — the Gold Rush led 2-0 late in the first half against the Mustangs when the referees halted the game because of unsportsmanlike conduct.
Victories against LSUA and Southwest would give XULA the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament, which will begin late next week.
