OKLAHOMA CITY — Xavier University of
Louisiana produced nine top-10 finishes Saturday in its varsity debut at
the Head of the Oklahoma regatta.
XULA's Lashall Richards won the
women's open novice 1x with a time of 33 minutes, 51.117 seconds.
Finishing second for the XULA women were
Diamond Smith, Paige Walls, Margo Davis and
Alana Sankey in the open 4x in 25:41.522. Brandon King and Mekhi Akonnor
placed fourth in 2:05.072 in the men's open 2x 500-meter grand final.
The two-day meet will conclude Sunday
at a downtown site on the Oklahoma River. XULA will compete at 9:50 and 10:55 a.m.,
then bus back to campus.
XULA rowed as a club program
the past two academic years. XULA varsity rowing is the first for men and women at a
Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
