        LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Alexandra Melnikova produced clinching victories in doubles and singles Friday to lead Georgia Gwinnett to a 7-0 victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in a matchup of top-4 NAIA women's tennis teams.
        The Grizzlies, who won their eighth consecutive national title last season, are 5-1 and ranked second. The Gold Nuggets (2-3) are fourth.
        Melnikova and Diana Ilie clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory against XULA's 2024 ITA Cup championship team of Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley. Melnikova won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against Amira Bergaoui to clinch the overall match.
        Georgia Gwinnett won every set. XULA's most competitive matches were at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles.
        XULA's women and men will visit SCAD Atlanta at 10 a.m. EST Saturday, then drive home.
