Xavier University of Louisiana freshmen
Mansur Ali and
Charity Johnson
finished third in the discus Friday at the Louisiana Classics track and field meet, and Ali set a school record.
Ali threw the discus 48.01 meters/157 feet, 6 inches
to break an 87-year-old men's school record. Louis Williams set the previous mark of 45.56 meters/149 feet, 6 inches
at the inaugural Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Atlanta on April 23, 1938.
Johnson's best in the women's discus was
43.48 meters/142 feet, 8 inches.
The two-day meet — XULA's first competition of the 2025 outdoor season — will resume at 8 a.m.
Saturday at Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
