Gold Rush place 12th at Mississippi College

        CLINTON, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana men's cross country placed 12th Friday out of 16 teams with 277 points in the Mississippi College Opener at Choctaw Trails.
        Freshman Ivory Montgomery was the first Gold Rush finisher for the second time in as many meets. He ran 5,000 meters in 18 minutes, 19.31 seconds to finish 65th out of 139 runners.
        Also competing for the Gold Rush were Collin Wright, 74th in 18:47.48; Joshua Aviles, 87th in 19:36.61; Kamal Webb, 89th in 19:46.14; and Kevin Bahena, 107th in 20:54.76.
        XULA did not qualify for team scoring in the 5K women's race. The Gold Nuggets' finishers were Jayda Love, 55th out of 98 runners in 24:35.98; and Dakota West, 62nd in 25:24.24.
        Individual champions were Godfrey Kimutai (15:28.16) of Jackson State in the men's race and Bre Bell (18:29.29) of Mississippi College in the women's. Mississippi College swept the team titles; the women scored a perfect 15 points — the Choctaws produced nine of the 10 fastest women — and the men had 28 points.
        XULA will compete next Friday in the LSU Invitational at LSU UREC Field Complex in Baton Rouge, La. The men's 2 x 4K relay will start at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women's 2 x 3K relay at 9 a.m.
