Softball loses 2 close games against No. 16 LSU-A

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier softball team fought hard but took a pair of tough losses in a double-header against nationally ranked LSU-Alexandria.

Xavier (5-14, 2-6 RRAC) fell to the No. 16 Generals (16-8, 8-0 RRAC) by scores of 3-0 and 5-3.

In the first game, pitcher Morgan Malveaux (3-4) pitches a wonderful game, going 6 innings and allowing just 3 hits and 2 earned runs, but LSU-A's Lainey Bailey (8-2) pitched a gem as well, limiting the Gold Nuggets to 5 hits while striking out 10.

Offensively, Miya Covington was Xavier's star in Game 1. She went 2-for-3 with a double.

In Game 2, Covington went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Jada Hughes scored a run and Amireeya Malveaux  went 1-for-1 with an RBI in a pinch-hit appearance.  Bella Rivera (2-3) had a quality outing in the circle, striking out 2 in a complete-game effort.

XULA and LSU-Alexandria conclude their series Saturday with a single game.
