South Louisiana weather prevented both the Xavier women's and men's teams from competing in their first Southern States Athletic Conference matches Thursday at Metairie's Lafreniere Park.
The Gold Nuggets and Gold Rush were originally scheduled to play Thomas (Ga.), but repeated weather delays forced the teams to abandon the matches, at least temporarily. A suitable makeup date will be announced at a later time.
In the meantime, the Xavier soccer teams' SSAC slate will continue Saturday with the teams hosting Brewton-Parker. The women's match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., with the men's match to follow at 3.
Saturday is also International Day, Xavier Soccer's annual salute to the incredible international students who make Xavier-Louisiana's academic and athletics programs special. Student-athletes on the women's and men's soccer teams will sport the flags of their home nations during starting lineups, and fans are encouraged to show their pride as well.
