Erica Turnbull scored 17 points, and
Patrice Hawkins had career highs of 11 points and
12 rebounds Thursday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 73-42 women's basketball
victory over the College of the Bahamas at The Barn and give
Bo Browder his 200th coaching
victory at Xavier.
Browder, in his ninth season as the Gold Nuggets' head coach, is 200-75 at Xavier and
the school's winningest women's coach. He is the 10th Louisiana women's coach to reach
200 victories.
Xavier (7-2) never trailed and won for the 56th time in its last 58 games at The Barn.
Hawkins, a reserve senior center, played 12 minutes and reached double figures in points
and rebounds for the first time in her career.
Alissa Thompson had a season-high nine points and a career-high-tying seven assists for
Xavier, and
Tiffany Norris had a career-best six steals.
Alyse Dean scored 12 points, and Diasti Delancy and Christine Sinclair scored 11
apiece for College of the Bahamas (0-5), which is in its first season of intercollegiate
competition.
Dean's 3-pointer at 3:52 of the first half cut Xavier's lead to 19-15, but
Jarryn Cleaves
and
Danielle Jones each scored three points in a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 25-15
by halftime. Xavier maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and took
its biggest lead, 69-37, on Hawkins' free throw with 2:21 remaining.
Xavier outshot the Caribs 38 to 35 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 51-36.
The Nuggets committed a season-low 12 turnovers and gained 26, 20 by steal.
Xavier's next game will start at 5 p.m. Sunday against Houston Baptist at The Barn.
College of the Bahamas will play two more games in New Orleans: 5:30 p.m. Friday at Dillard
and 7 p.m. Saturday against SUNO at Delgado Community College.
