NEW ORLEANS — Brittany Powell and Jasmine Grant each scored 14 points Friday, and Powell grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 63-53 women's basketball victory over Wiley in the Xavier Classic.
     The Gold Nuggets (5-1), the only team to go 2-0 in this year's event, extended their winning streak at The Barn to 22 games. They've won 70 of their past 72 games in their campus venue.
     Johnna Williams had 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for Xavier, which will play Wiley again at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall, Texas.
     Wiley rallied from an 11-point deficit to tie the score at 45 with 8:52 remaining, then Powell scored five points in an 8-0 run to put Xavier ahead to stay.
     Latoya Murray had 15 points, six assists and three steals, and Katrina Harris had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Wiley (3-6), which has a three-game losing streak..
     Langston, which lost 67-63 to Xavier on Thursday, defeated Dillard 73-60 in the first game Friday.
