NEW ORLEANS — Jazmoné Kelly scored a career-high 15 points Saturday, and Xavier University of Louisiana scored 24 unanswered first-half points to cruise to a 77-34 women's basketball victory over Wiley.
The homecoming victory makes the Gold Nuggets 4-0 for just the second time in
Bo Browder's 11 seasons as head coach.
Wiley (1-3) scored the first two points, then Xavier scored the next 24.
Jasmine Grant made three 3-pointers in a row during the seventh minute to make it 22-2 at 13:02.
Grant tied her season high with 14 points, and
Christina Warren added a season-high 12 for Xavier, which has won 81 times in its past 84 games at The Barn. Kelly scored 11 points in the second half.
Latoya Murray led Wiley with nine points and three steals. Nekia Hicks had six points and six rebounds.
Xavier outshot the Lady Wildcats 44 to 24 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 40-37. Xavier made a season-best 86 percent of its free throws, committed a season-low 12 turnovers and gained 30.
Xavier's
LaTashia Wise tied a career high with 10 rebounds, and
Marchelle Jones had a season-high eight assists and a career-high seven steals.
The Nuggets' next game will start at 5 p.m. Monday against Concordia (Ala.) at The Barn. Wiley's next game game will be Nov. 30 at Philander Smith.
