Nuggets serve season-high 15 aces, win at Voorhees

DENMARK, S.C. — Seven Xavier University of Louisiana players combined for a season-high 15 aces Sunday in a 25-5, 25-12, 25-13 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory against Voorhees.
     Jodi Hill and Kaelan Temple both served a career-high four aces for the Gold Nuggets (14-4, 10-0). Hill produced all her aces during an 8-0 first-set run, and Temple served all of hers during an 8-0 third-set run.
     Franziska Pirkl and CeCe Williams served two aces apiece for Xavier, and Darian Harris, Ralitsa Hadzhistoyanova and Jelena Vujicic each had one.
     Xavier hit .317, its second-highest percentage of the season, and got 11 kills from Hill, six from Claudia Haywood and four apiece from Vujicic and Jada Broussard.
     Kayla Jones led the Nuggets with nine digs. Pirkl had 17 assists, and Hadzhistoyanova had 11.
     The Gold Nuggets won in 49 minutes, their second-shortest match of the season. Xavier has won 53 consecutive matches against GCAC opponents — 44 in the regular season — and 51 straight against HBCUs. The Gold Nuggets are 5-1 on the road this season.
     Voorhees is 5-19, 0-12.
     Xavier will remain on the road and visit GCAC member Edward Waters at 5 p.m. EDT Monday in Jacksonville, Fla. The next XU home match will start at 7 p.m. Thursday against SUNO, the GCAC's second-place team.
