    NEW ORLEANS — Sophomore forward Tajanee Wells scored all 29 of her points in the second half Monday to rally Talladega to a 67-57 women's basketball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
       The Lady Tornadoes (11-11, 5-4 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) gained a season split with the Gold Nuggets (14-12, 7-3), who won at Talladega in their GCAC opener five weeks ago.
       Wells was 11-of-16 from the floor, 4-of-6 on 3-pointers and 3-of-3 from the line after halftime. Xavier led 19-4 through the first 7 1/2 minutes, but Nautica Smith made a pair of 3-pointers to help Talladega reduce Xavier's lead to 29-23 by halftime.
       Wells, who outscored Xavier by a point in the second half, made 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to give Talladega a 45-43 lead with 11:44 remaining. Ella Rodriguez made two free throws at 4:29 to put the Lady Tornadoes ahead to stay, 57-55. Talladega outscored Xavier 14-2 in the final 5:05. Wells' 3-point play at 1:02 made it 62-55.
       Shakeena Benton scored 10 points for Talladega, including 4-of-4 free throws in the final 25 seconds. Victoria Schallberger had seven assists.

Donyeah Mayfield had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Gold Nuggets and became the first XU player in three years to produce three consecutive double-doubles.
Whitney Gathright had 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
       Talladega outshot Xavier 39 to 35.9 percent from the floor, 48.1 to 30.3 percent in the second half.
       Xavier lost at home in conference for just the fifth time in its last 87 games. Talladega beat the Gold Nuggets at Xavier for the first time since 2002.
       The Gold Nuggets' next game will start at 2 p.m. Saturday against Philander Smith in Little Rock, Ark. The Nuggets' next home game will start at 5 p.m. Feb. 28 against Dillard in the Crosstown Classic at XU's Convocation Center.
