The tennis teams of Xavier
University of Louisiana traveled to the central part of the
state to grab three dual-match victories Sunday.
During the morning in Alexandria, the XULA women
defeated LSUA 5-0 in a matchup of NAIA top-10 teams.
Then in the afternoon in Pineville, the Gold Nuggets and Gold Rush
dropped a combined two games in 9-0 victories against NCAA Division III Louisiana College.
The victories against LC stretched the Gold Nuggets'
win streak to three and the Gold Rush's to two. The XULA women are 5-3, and the
men are 2-1.
The Gold Rush will play NCAA Division I Nicholls
at 3 p.m. Wednesday at XULA Tennis Center. On Friday both XULA teams
will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to play William Carey in more
matchups with top-10 NAIA opponents. Both XULA teams are ranked third;
the William Carey men are fourth, and its women are ninth.
Charlene Goreau, ranked 34th among NAIA singles
players, clinched against LSUA with a 6-0, 6-1 victory on the second court against No. 50 Patricia Perez.
Farah Baklouti also won 6-0, 6-1 against Marie Cool on the fourth court.
Lacee Ancar and
Angela Charles-Alfred earned XULA's
first doubles point with an 8-2 victory against Niamh Parker and Katheryne Campos.
Baklouti and
Mariia Borodii, ranked 14th nationally, made it 2-0 with an 8-3 decision against Miljana
Milojevic and Cool, then 19th-ranked Goreau and
Yi Chen Pao completed the doubles sweep
by beating Perez and Patricia Martinez 8-4.
LSUA is ranked eighth.
XULA dominated Louisiana College, losing one game
in women's doubles and one game in men's singles. Borodii did not play against LC,
allowing
Angelica De Vincenzis to earn her first doubles victory of the spring
semester and the same for
Lacee Ancar in singles. De Vincenzis and Baklouti
defeated Caitlyn Scheibal and Diana Soto at No. 3 doubles, and Ancar
beat Soto 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Samir Chikhaoui and
Gabriel Niculescu won in doubles and singles for the XULA men,
who competed for the first time in two weeks. Andrieu clinched with a 6-0, 6-0
victory against Johnathan Franklin.
