NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Kennedy Wade,
Eva Le Guillou and
Maya Smith are the recipients of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference's
first weekly volleyball awards of the 2020-21 academic year.
Wade is Attacker of the Week, Le Guillou is Setter of the Week,
and Smith is Defender of the Week. Awards were based on performances from Oct. 12-18. For XULA that covered
two home matches — a three-set victory against city rival Loyola and a five-set loss to William Carey.
Le Guillou, a senior from Velizy-Villacoublay, France,
earned a GCAC weekly award for the 19th time in four seasons. It's the first weekly honor for Wade,
a freshman from Gainesville, Fla., and a graduate of Buchholz High School, and Smith, a sophomore
from Peachtree Corners, Ga., and a graduate of Norcross High School.
Wade hit .253 in 95 attacks and produced kill-dig double-doubles
in both matches. Against William Carey she became the first XULA freshman to reach 20 kills and 20 digs
in the same match (23 kills, 26 digs).
In the Loyola match Le Guillou produced her 18th career double-double:
16 assists and 11 digs. For the week she had 48 assists and 19 digs.
Smith against Loyola tied the XULA record for blocks in a match with 10.
She had six blocks against William Carey and a career-best 10 kills. Her 1.71 blocks per set this season rank first in the NAIA.
This most recent weekly awards sweep is XULA's 17th in six seasons
and its fourth in a row dating to 2019.
XULA (2-2) will be back on the court Saturday for a 1 p.m.
match at William Carey (4-0) in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The host school is limiting attendance to William Carey faculty, staff, and parents of WCU players
because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
