Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball won only one quarter, the fourth, but it was enough to give the Gold Nuggets a 64-62 victory Wednesday at Edward Waters in the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Gold Nuggets (16-14), seeded fifth, will play top-seeded and NAIA No. 10 Talladega at 5 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals at XULA's Convocation Center.
XULA outscored Edward Waters 19-10 in the fourth quarter and took the lead for good on
Anica Gacevic's basket with 6:21 remaining. On the Gold Nuggets' next possession, Gacevic's 3-pointer gave them a 61-56 advantage.
XULA trailed by 11 twice in the third quarter and 52-45 by the end of it.
Kyla Duncan and
Shaelynn Moore scored 15 points apiece for the Gold Nuggets, and
Abryhia Irons had 12 without missing a shot.
Edward Waters (19-11), the No. 4 seed, had four double-figure scorers. La'Quanza Glover had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
It was the third close game this season between these teams. XULA won 57-56 at home Jan. 27, then Edward Waters won 65-61 on its court Feb. 24.
