XULA defeats Benedictine (Kan.) by 13 in NAIA opener

LAKELAND, Fla. — Da'Jha Virgil scored 17 points and Nia Bishop 15 to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 58-45 victory against Benedictine (Kan.) in the 2020-21 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Opening Round, presented by Ballogy.
XULA (13-6) improved its season-best win streak to seven and will play the host, 10th-ranked Southeastern, in the round of 32 at 7:30 p.m. EST Saturday. The winner will advance to the round of 16 next week at Sioux City, Iowa.
Southeastern is 25-2 and has a 24-game win streak.
XULA won at nationals for the first time a 66-53 first-round decision against Westmont on March 19, 2014, at Frankfort, La. Coupled with men's basketball's 67-59 victory against Cumberlands at Alexandria, La., earlier in the day, it's the first time that both XULA basketball teams won at NAIA nationals in the same season.
