XULA sweeps GCAC weekly player awards

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana volleyball earned all three of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference weekly awards for March 21-28.
The GCAC announced Monday that XULA's Bria Mayes is Attacker of the Week, Semira Blair is Setter of the Week and Vivica Price-Spraggins is Defender of the Week. Those three helped XULA go 4-0 to conclude conference play and clinch a 10th consecutive GCAC regular-season championship.
Mayes, a sophomore from Houston and a graduate of Lamar High School, hit .492 with 34 kills and seven blocks and hit .611 Saturday — 12 kills, one error and 18 attacks — in a three-set victory against second-place Dillard that clinched the GCAC title. Blair, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, and a graduate of Paschal High School, led the team with 71 assists and seven aces. Price-Spraggins, a senior from Chicago and a graduate of Whitney Young Magnet High School, produced 16 blocks and hit .365 with 28 kills and four aces. She had a career-high-tying eight blocks Saturday against Dillard.
Mayes and Blair have won two GCAC weekly awards apiece this season. Price-Spraggins's award is her first this season and the fifth of her career.
Next for XULA — 16-4 overall and 12-0 in conference — will be the GCAC Tournament April 9-10 at Talladega, Ala.
