GULF SHORES, Ala. — Xavier University
of Louisiana's
Santerrius Barlow ran 100 meters in a career-best 10.37 seconds
Thursday to advance to the men's finals of the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Barlow will be in lane five Friday for the final, which will start at 4 p.m.
at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Barlow's time is XULA's fastest since
the school reinstated track and field in 2010.
All-time it compares favorably to Wendell Belfield's converted time of 10.28 —
based on a 9.4 100-yard dash Belfield ran at the Southern Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Championships in Atlanta on May 15, 1948.
Barlow was one of three runners to
break 10.40 seconds. William Carey's Emmanuel Ineh led all sprinters with 10.33,
and Indiana Tech's Lincoln Zayquan was third in 10.39.
Neither XULA high-jumper scored.
Damien Trahan placed ninth at 2.05 meters/6 feet, 8 3/4 inches, and
Edward Angel was 11th at 2.00 meters/6 feet, 6 3/4 inches.
The champion was Midland's Shandon Reitzell at 2.19 meters/7 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
