GULF SHORES, Ala. — Xavier University
of Louisiana's
Emerald Carter and
Alexis Williams qualified Thursday for the women's finals of the
NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Carter grabbed the eighth and final spot
in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time was 14.21 seconds, one-hundredth of a second faster than
College of Idaho's Kiersten Lancaster. William Carey's Joy Abu (13.73) and Indiana
Tech's Leondra Correia (13.79) led the qualifiers.
Carter's time is a career best and XULA's fastest
since it reinstated the sport in 2010.
Williams was sixth in the 400 prelims
with a career-best 56.81 seconds. Southern Oregon's
Arianna Daniel produced the fastest time, 55.24.
The 100 hurdles final will start at 3:20 p.m. Friday,
followed by the 400 final at 4:30. Also in a final will be XULA's 400 relay team of
Ebone Stingley,
Ariel Ford, Williams and
Jada McBean; their race will start
at 2:40 p.m.
Not advancing Thursday
were McBean (did not finish) in the 100,
Destiny Tolliver (31st place, 15.53)
in the 100 hurdles and the 1,600 relay team of
Darryan Horton, Williams,
Reagan Collins and Ford
(13th, 3:57.27).
